History of the NetAcademy

1996 The NetAcademy concept was developed according the following idea:

1997 The NetAcademy went online in March, offering a NA on Business Media, a NA on Knowledge Media, a NA on Media Management and the online version of the Electronic Markets Journal (which was founded as an in-house publication 1991). Below the NA logo and the Mind map of the NA Homepage:

1998 The NetAcademy gets international attention and identifies daily approx. 150 visitors of America, Asia and Europe (600 page downloads, 9000 requests daily). The Electronic Markets Journal now disposes of an international board of first rate scientists in the field of e-commerce. The prize awarded Journal is now being published quarterly in a print version by Routledge, London.The dynamic functionalities of the platform are elaborated, using Oracle/SQL and Lotus Notes technology. - The core functionalities supporting the community aspects of the NetAcademy are embedded into three main applications: Publications, Participants/Registration and Discussions, see figure below:

1999 Die NetAcademy now counts daily 600-700 single visitors, 70% are coming from the USA (1'600 page downloads, 26'000 requests daily).


The NetAcademy on Media Management launches an own academic journal on Media Management, online and quarterly issues in print. The first issue is on the focus theme "Media Convergence" (December 1999.

A new NA instance has opened, the NA on Communications Management, which is showing up now on the NA Homepage Mind map:

2000 The NetAcademy is visited by 700 visitors per day (2'200 visits, 14'000 page downloads, 40'000 requests daily). Based on the NetAcademy structure, the platform for the Executive MBA in New Media and Communication at the University of St. Gallen is launched, see its below homepage:

The NetAcademy Press starts its activities with a first book (in print-on-demand service with Libri / BOD).

Hosting of the NetAcademy platform and further technical support is being outsourced to Informationobjects.com.

2001 Traffic on the NetAcademy reaches now up to 1'500'000 requests and 500'000 page downloads per month, wich equals approx. 16'000 page downloads and 50'000 requests per day. Based on the NetAcademy structure, a Teaching Platform for the major course in Media and Communications Managementat the University of St. Gallen is launched, see its below entry page:

A complete redesign of the entire NetAcademy platform is envisioned together with Informationojects.com. One of the main goals is to leave behind various complications due to the Lotus Notes technology. The below figure shows the change requests diagram for all stakeholders.

2002 The complete relaunch of the NetAcademy takes place in August. Long live the NetAcademy!
